Steve Buckley's of this he's down in Fort Myers -- Now the players don't have any distractions all the knuckle heads are gone. And they have the manager they want. So does this make the player more accountable. It does except the only caveat to that is I think the play should have -- accountable last year and as much fun was it is we have with David Ortiz today. Throwing Bobby Valentine and the by settling all family business and so forth. You really want your star player going back to spring training help they'll -- some last year as an excuse why this team failed in 2012. You can't keep blaming the manager forever and they need to be they should have been accountable last year. But yes I agree with the larger point that don't have Bobby Valentine to kick around anymore though he did so today. So buck you're on the ground you've seen them work out you see the players in the flash it. Was the money well spent in the offseason. I do think the money was well spent the offseason to the degree that they are not necessarily. Focused on winning a championship in 2013. I'm in no way saying you're giving up on T thirteen is a lot season. They could've spent no money lost -- ten games rebuilt from the ground up as teams tend to do what you try to do -- put represented a team on the field. Keep all the young players not give up any draft picks by signing expensive free agents and again. You know what if Bard reclaimed his old self if Lester does it Buchholz does that Lackey does they can easily winning 85 to ninety games stick in the wild card. And then it's anybody's ball game. But it's not gonna be a 110 -- team they have represented a team in that spear the money was -- You know I I I find that John Lackey fascinating because obviously he's lost a lot of weight. I mean he -- wow. So what do you think here should we expect more from John lacking. Yes I think that they. I don't think the wait -- says and if you do with that I think a year removed from surgery. Guys tend to pick up some speed their media in after that. I think he can win 1213 fourteen games at the back of the rotation starter. Gone are the days when you expect John Lackey to win twenty games as they might have optimistically about when they sign the guy in the first place. So if you look at him if you temper your expectations. He can win 1213 fourteen games but it has nothing to do with the way it was several years ago Sid Fernandez who bounced around. He lost that title -- soon disappeared so. Yeah the weight loss and he doesn't mean a thing. While just like Jackie Gleason though -- great memory loss lady wasn't as funny hit the the ego you know I know buck loves those old television preferences but I mean though. The -- those signify that he wants to turn it around but he wants to do a better job. Had to use recommitted himself to pitch it. I agree with all that but again not listen. Good for him he lost a lot of weight I wanna see him throw I also wanna see an improved attitude. I understand the players love him he picks up our checks and chicken you know all that for his young teammates and that's a wonderful Christmas story. But the fact of the matter is I don't wanna see the -- rolling I don't wanna see employing guys in the field. -- teammates say it's not a big deal them it's a big deal to the focus of the team. This team has to stop being a laughingstock I think is -- John Lackey goes it begins with some of that. He needs to be a big league professional ballplayer in 2013. And not the guy we sort. Couple years ago. Yeah I think it's dangerous territory for us to expect and everybody's just gonna get along in this clubhouse because all about high paid prima Donna. Beer drinking chicken -- and players are gone. Just because you bring in new names and they're good solid players. In not overpaid for the most part even though you could make an argument -- Victorino. You know I think we have to be careful but doesn't automatically mean it's gonna be great clubhouse right. No but you know what you can have a bad clubhouse is still win a lot of games if if there's one thing we've learned about the Terry Francona years he put -- a lot of flyers made himself the -- a lot of jokes. When there was indeed a lot of stuff going on in the clubhouse and as far as the sprinkle on a book goes -- -- one of the things he danced around. Was the whole Mike Lowell situation Mike -- was beating up happening -- office all the time about playing time. But I think Francona backed off that the book. I think there was disharmony about that there was disharmony about Kevin Millar playing time. He was upset in general rule was there these two teams that won a lot of games in two cases one World Series championships in it wasn't always a happy cohesive bunch. So you can have a bunch of guys grumbling in their win a lot of games. I don't need my guys on a baseball team to be buddies and see who by our outfield things to play as a team and you can play is a team is still squabble. But if they did Cink who buy out in the field a bit -- did sell tickets moving right along I don't think they're not thinking about not the bullpen. I think it's a huge question mark and I have no idea how good it's going to be or how bad it's going to be so -- -- -- Well I'm I'm not gonna go 67891011. I think. Really comes right down one guy and that's Hanrahan and and my -- didn't have a good season meisters he had the year before. But the Pittsburgh Pirates now they're bringing him in as the closer I think that was a very wise move. To announce the fourth spring training even began that Hanrahan is the closer and not have some kind of make pretend competition. You revel in Nomar Garciaparra was a rookie what they had to make pitching competition. With Nomar and balances I was gonna be the starting shortstop and you know it's going to be Nomar that was a complete joke knowledge it was tick off Valentine. So what they've done is they stepped on Andrew Bailey is that what you -- most polite season. When you did come back you still feeling your way around out the mound. So we're gonna make him in our closer. You're gonna have to prove yourself so let's step -- one step number two is. Daniel Bard in two parts get a bounce back and be the guy he was the beginning 2011. In 2010. If they're gonna be competitive ballclub he was on the cost of emerging as one of the best setup guys in baseball. He screwed around him last year this is a guy they had Steve Blass disease in the minor leagues. That never goes away remains dormant I think they've brought that back by -- unrealized unrealistic expectations. It should temper the expectations of Daniel Bard get him back in that set up role in it he can reclaim some of that Hanrahan has emerges as the closer.
