We're now joined by Mike west off all of our special teams coach of the New York Jets. He now joins us on radio row coach I don't five thanks you guys were great. Thanks for taking the time. I'm glad to yet you know life in New England here the Patriots and the Jets. -- a lot of our time. You let your team and your fellow coaches to players. A great deal more time and energy so. As a great rivalry I -- I've gone against everyone by my thirty years in the NFL. And although lately is that the opportunities that. So that's -- -- about their reports just -- but I think you guys to the Jets organization have any regrets over. Mistakes it might have made in the last couple years because it looked like a couple of years ago might. You know you work you were competitive with the Patriots are -- pretty good to beat for the playoffs yet it back and forth and you know the pats had to concerted effort time and not feel like you've fallen back what what went well. -- about -- you know I'm retiring so so it's not about thirty longer that this is about. I had I had a great run there yeah we I think one of the things that happened two years ago we were. And we went back to back AFC championship games. We did it because of the whole program -- whole team. And not just because of all our eggs in one basket. You know we were we we let -- they can rush. We had a couple really good receivers that call I had a very good special teams unit we shall we were good on defense. We were a complete team we didn't have -- we did have to operate. And no disrespect to Mark Sanchez is not my point but there and so we -- that kind of team. As our backup guys we were loaded we rep speaks all of it based team. As we tried to progress forward and keep our top guys we dissipated in my opinion the middle or football it can happen. Like who are less likely -- lose off your roster that you think while all of the sudden change he proposed a plan for you guys stink all you can deal with it but as a backup guy as a role player. As a role player he's outstanding. The post -- talk about our backup guys -- the top guys at so I think what happened you know we we no longer had the two running backs and so the a little bit of the middle of our football team. Drop and consequently it's not like you know it's like with that we're -- score. You know it's like a Tom Brady can score thirty points a game we did have that. And -- he was gonna get to slide down that's my opinion that's why I believe we dropped to deal I don't look at the top roster. Got worse but Mark Sanchez did not matter to -- you lose revisit -- injuries that that's not my point was Mark Sanchez. Did -- our football team Mark Sanchez was a part of our football all of a sudden or Burton was brought in his lap. And -- and that's very difficult for him. So a lot of those guys that fall apart -- that we just did get quite as good and so. It was disappointing I know the group that I had dropped off dramatically at -- ice that. Our ice to really believe we go play -- -- like that that I hit it bad that I QB. I did that that that dissipated and I thought that it brought they're pretty good but still that's just dollar fell in so to me gradually. All of a sudden it -- actually you know your your look at bill. So that they've got a lot of work to do to get back to strike it will -- work why doesn't think has gotten better. That's a tough question. I think there's things that mark does. Well in a particular -- in a row. I don't think keys that that that he can throw on his back we we lost some good receivers that that really helped him. And then the fact that you know that the years the two -- her for two years we led the league in rushing. We -- -- starting field position he's playing on the shortest field with a team that can run and allow the ball as he's had so. You know my point is he was a part of that and I don't know it's it's an interesting question will he ever be able to. To handle all I'm not sure that I don't know the answer that question. That though but I know one thing that that the things that did drop off what. What he was a part we didn't half he I'll I'll I'll -- think he's able to overcome that I don't believe he has. Do you feel. That. Hewitt handled too softly but they -- shelves -- -- he got contract extension he got guaranteed money. Felt like really about how poorly he played he kept his starting job up until finally at the very end of this year -- yeah he lost his job for game there're couple games but. That's a tough but that's what he challenged enough that's it's there's -- but that's a good question good point I have I'm a little bit. Surprised you'd have to ask you know you'd have to ask my Panama -- that's -- exactly why. He was extended last year. I mean that was you know the contract thing is very difficult it's very complex I should say and and so he didn't get that extension. And you could debate that a lot of ways is that as to why we did that to be honest with I don't have an answer to are truly don't. That's not something I deal with I haven't looked at enough to keep myself busy but now with you challenged enough. Possibly not what. But I'm a firm believer that when he flourished. It was because he was part of a very good package that package dissipated and I and I don't see him as be able to do it alone I just don't did -- Didn't interview yesterday that New York where he said does some -- -- effective. Tim Tebow comes -- the Jets with the idea. And I know that not too long ago you were asked about Tebow and the whole thing with our jobs what little. All that I would use efforts I said it was a mess a mess that was about how I was very much in favor of it I truly wants I was for him Rex called me and asked me. I believe that that then people would integrate. Into a lot of different roles. It never really happened -- we've really used on the flags on the punt team and he did a good job but we -- three successful fakes we. We had a don't potter to put up some very good numbers to they're by like knowing what was playing this very soft there where that market will lose -- -- running a face. -- what's gonna let that happen. And so what hope does have a lot of ways. But yet it didn't materialize. Throughout the course of our our offense it just didn't happen.
