McAdam's Red Sox report card
Transcript
It's time to hit out the grades that mr. shot McCadam and his report card and Shawn lets start with these big problem that would be. Starting pitching we look at the list you see guys like Morales he was a pleasant to. Surprise and you've brought really held his own with a big -- but pulled Lester or Beckett I think both -- All anywhere near good. Exactly this team was going to succeed or fail and fail they did. Based on the front line guys they needed Lester or Beckett and Buchholz to have somewhere in the area of forty something wins they didn't come close to that. They all had ERA is north of four and a half and that more than any other reason is why the Red Sox have the season they did. Ports starting pitching from the guys they needed to deliver at the front of the rotation. Let's move onto the bullpen now I need you to Dallas he really opened up some -- Scott Atchison we know he's proved to be reliable over the past few seasons. What effect if he had issues on and off the field elites won't be the guy that would replace Jonathan Papelbon only thing. He certainly had his fair share. Right it started to go downhill very early when Andrew Bailey had the thumb injury late in spring training. That's force them to sort of remake the bullpen on the fly and for a time the seventh actually did a decent job as the closer. He saved nineteen of his first 22 opportunities. Up through July 1. But after that it was all downhill a -- became more of a distraction. Then he was any sort of solution on the mound with some immature behavior a suspension. And then Bailey finally comes back on August for the final six weeks. Ramps up does a nice job and then gets to the final two weeks of September and blows up and a big weight twice in the late innings in road games in new York and Tampa today. Vision players and our kids he was great Pedroia acknowledged trying to fight through injuries he always does that Mel Brooks -- a lot faster than everyone expected. -- was a certainly a good addition this season. Gonzales we all know he was a big part of that big salary dump for the Dodgers with the guys that are still here Saltalamacchia LeBron -- At least his concerns. Yes guys that they were trying to get sort of head start on for next year. Particularly in the -- -- and Iglesias came up in the final month or so and did not impress in places we know can be a wizard with the glove in the field. That isn't the issue. He still hasn't been able to hit 200 of the big league level and not have to conserve them as they go into the off season. Say -- were born when you've got a terrific here at the pocket but really did very little with the back some of it was he was worn down a little bit by then and again. Even though Saltalamacchia. Had 25 home runs and sort of broke through power wise they still don't know what they're going to do behind the play. Quickly we ended Bobby down tied a single sat -- this one really that. Yeah a couple of good personnel decisions in terms of -- valuing players he was in favor of keeping Daniel Bard the bullpen they probably should have done that. He saw the promise of Franklin Morales in the rotation. That worked out. But in terms of communication. Preparation. Building relationships with the players perhaps across the board and a very forgettable season and Bobby Valentine's one year in the dugout. I -- to make I'm thinking too much there.
