Gene for the second time in just a few years here replacing when he coaches that -- -- YouTube marquee programs. Not an easy time to be an athletic director at Boston college and not. It's not you know there's good days in this job -- tough days in this job in this is one of those stuff for days and Al Skinner sent a great man and you know he did a real good job for Austin. So this is not easy at all when -- replacing coach is so frequently. I get a coach and -- the -- quality guy with -- you know out that the stigma of this being a tough place to work well. Let me just say this we don't replace coach is very quickly here Tom O'Brien was here ten years. Most soccer coaches have been here thirteen years in the morning we maybe seventy. -- -- -- Al Skinner was here thirteen years how many basketball coach in the country -- -- -- institution for thirteen years not too many so. Our coaches stay a long long time. And you know sometimes it's just better for them and better for the institution. You know that it -- to part ways thirteen years where did the relationship grows stale. Yeah I don't know that the relationship crucial field. You know -- and I have always gotten along well you know what you have to do is you have to take entire program and look at it from top to bottom. You have to look at you know the wake coach aside the you look at all that wouldn't -- on the outside. People with trainer. And then you look at the program from top to bottom with whether it's coaches isn't whether it's recruiting or. You know style of play or whatever it is so there's many many things like going to a Chris. Recruiting is always been. It -- talk around -- scan of the way he conducts his business -- looking for more of a tireless recruiter guy who's out there. Every single day really kind of beating the other half and not losing -- local kids especially. Well you know you and I've been around for so long long time and we know one thing that all great coaches say one thing content and it was great players. And so. The life blood of college athletics is recruiting and we really really have to have somebody that can come in here. Recruit recruit recruit her innocence and relevant players. We disappointed at how Al recruited we will look at some of them. There's some local kids playing in Florida. So like kids from saint marks who left the area recently and he never really seemed to get. The marquis McDonald's all American type -- You know I wasn't disappointed this much with who we took because son Craig Smith turned out to be a good player from California Jared Dudley was from California. On. Let me see Troy Brown Troy -- was from Minnesota but we were all disappointed that we haven't signed a real good -- player -- and that's disappointing for everybody. Certainly -- -- about the body of work. It was at this season or was it more than this season that ended up. In the end this -- and you know what I think you do I think you look at the body of work for thirteen years and house here. That you look at the body of work this year and last year and you look at the body -- work from three years ago and two years ago and then how one. You know it's it is these are tough decision you have to evaluate everything in. But the main concern is where we don't want. Where are we going to leave us get here announcements -- very very important to us. Where is a program going -- a quality coach and yeah I coached at. Obviously want to take the program to another level allows hasn't been along time you know what I'm always said we wanna be at the were the best BC weakened it. And we're certainly not near that yet and that's what we're gonna strike today. We're gonna be the best we -- to me. And I think that can be pretty doggone good. And you get a guy in here that feels like -- he mentioned as being a pro town he mentioned on the negatives around the school -- do inside -- this this is a great job I mean it was a grace why we've got we're in the 34 best school in America number. Number two we're not arguably the best college town and American Boston. Number three our students. Our coaches surf music and I'll take advantage. Of Boston and all has to offer because we're six miles away. Two kids wanna play at a school as challenging as BC kids wanna commonplace in the Atlantic Coast Conference they want to play against him that wanna play against Carolina. So you know weren't greatly is also almost things make this a real good job.
