FOXBORO -- After blowing a 1-0 lead in the 77th minute, it looked for sure as if the New England Revolution would at least pick up a point on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium.
But Real Salt Lake scored the eventual game-winner in the 89th minute, when Olmes Garcia put home a rebound from the top-left side of the box with a sliding kick on a rebound following a corner kick, giving Real Salt Lake a 2-1 lead.
Saer Sene had a golden opportunity, 1:45 into extra time to tie the game, but he telegraphed a penalty kick with his left foot, and Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando made the game-saving save, giving them a 2-1 win over the Revolution.
The Revs scored first to take a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute, as Ryan Guy got a pass from Kelyn Rowe at the top of the box, and booted it out of mid-air on a bounce, into the low-right corner of the net.
Real Salt lake tied the game at 1-1 in the 77th minute, as Devon Sandoval made up for a missed header opportunity a minute prior. Sandoval put home a rebound out front after Revs goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth made the initial save on a shot from the outside, tying the game at 1-1.
But the Revs couldn't keep it tied and lost out on a point they probably should have left Gillette Stadium with.
