Revs to stage soccerboxing doubleheader at Gillette

FOXBOROFramingham native "Irish" Danny O'Connor will head the first-ever professional boxing card -- which will be part of a soccerboxing doubleheader -- at Gillette Stadium, beginning at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12.

The card will be begin at the conclusion of the Revolution-Montreal match, which begins at 7 p.m.

OConnor, an avid Revolution fan, is 17-1 and a former two-time national amateur champion. He was an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team in 2008.

I'm honored and proud to be able to fight in front of the New England Revolution supporters. They are the epitome of loyal fans and I'm proud to be part of the Revs family," said OConnor.

Also appearing on the three-bout card will be Boston Police Officer and former New England Golden Gloves champ Billy Traft, who will face Hulls mixed martial arts standout John Downey in Trafts second pro fight. An additional four-round bout is yet to be announced.
