FOXBOROIt wont count in the MLS standings, but believe it or not, Wednesday nights friendly match with English Premier League powerhouse Manchester United does mean something to the New England Revolution.

The Revs will get back to league play on Sunday night when they host the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium. It will be then, when theyll have a chance to try and snap an eight-game regular-season winless skid.

Three points on Wednesday night wont help New England escape from last place in the Eastern Conference, but it will help them work on their game against one of the best club teams in the world.

It should be fun for everybody, said Revolution midfielder Benny Feilhaber. Hopefully we can put on a good performance, because obviously its also training for us, to improve our league standings.

Manchester Uniteds been coming to the U.S. for a couple of preseasons now. Its really exciting to get to play them . . . Itll be good for us, to see that kind of level of competition, playing against it, and hopefully we can show ourselves well, as well as the MLS.

The Revs are coming off a 3-3 draw on July 4. If they want to break out of their current winless slump on Sunday, theyd be wise to learn from the best on Wednesday.

Were looking forward to the game immensely, said Revolution coach Steve Nicol. Itll be a great experience for the Revolution to play against one of the best teams on the planet and some of the best players on the planet. Im sure itll be a great experience for our guys. Hopefully we can do well and thatll give us some confidence to take into the rest of the season.

The Revolution will be without Kheli Dube (whiplash), and Ryan Cochrane (foot) is questionable, as of Tuesdays injury report. Kevin Alston (hamstring), Ousmane Dabo (quad strain), and Andrew Sousa (wrist) were listed as probable.

As for Manchester United, their preseason kickoff tour will include big names like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Nani, Dimitar Berbatov, Nemanja Vidic, Ji-Sung Park, Fabio, Rafael, and Patrice Evra.
