Report: Celtics among teams eyeing free agent Danny Green

The Boston Celtics have yet to add an unrestricted free agent this summer, but there are plenty of players on their radar.

You can add Danny Green to that list: The Celtics are among the teams that have reached out to the veteran wing in free agency, NBC Sports Philadelphia's Harrison Sanford reports.

Green, who spent the 2020-21 season with the 76ers, is "nowhere close" to reaching a new deal with Philadelphia, per Sanford. The Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans also have contacted Green in free agency, Sanford reports.

The 34-year-old is an excellent 3-point shooter and versatile perimeter defender who averaged 9.5 points per game last season while shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc. He also has experience working with new Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, who overlapped with Green for seven seasons on the San Antonio Spurs.

Green made $15.3 million in 2020-21 on the final year of his contract, though. While he'd likely sign for less money on a new deal, it's unclear whether the Celtics would be willing to sign Green to a multi-year contract if their goal is to maintain cap flexibility entering the 2022 offseason, as the Boston Herald's Mark Murphy reported Tuesday.

The C's also have shown interest in veteran guards Reggie Jackson and Isaiah Thomas, per reports, so there's still a chance they add pieces in free agency. It sounds like Green may be a bit outside their price range, but his availability is still worth monitoring as free agency progresses.
