Brady works in 2020 election joke with Biden at White House visit

Tom Brady celebrated a Super Bowl victory at the White House on Tuesday for the first time in 16 years -- and he made up for lost time.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback took the podium at the Rose Garden after President Joe Biden congratulated the team for its Super Bowl LV win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

And Brady either worked with a great speechwriter, or he has a future as a stand-up comedian. (Brady's joke begins at around the 45-second mark of the video below.)

"Not a lot of people think that we could have won," Brady said in his speech, before turning to Biden and adding, "In fact, I think about 40 percent of people still don't think we won. You understand that, Mr. President?"

That's an apparent reference to the 2020 presidential election: Biden won with 306 electoral votes to Republican Donald Trump's 232, but Trump and many of his supporters denounced the results amid claims of widespread voter fraud that have been proven false.

Brady dropped another one-liner while recalling the time he forgot what down it was during the Bucs' Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears:

"I lost track of one down in 21 years of playing, and they started calling me 'Sleepy Tom.' Why would they do that to me?" Brady said, directing that last question at Biden.

That's another reference to Trump, who mocked Biden by calling him "Sleepy Joe" during his presidential campaign.

Brady and Trump have known each other since 2002, when the then-New England Patriots quarterback judged Trump's Miss USA beauty pageant. Brady said in 2016 he considers Trump a "friend" but recently has distanced himself from the former president and didn't visit the White House to celebrate the Patriots' Super Bowl victories in 2017 or 2019 while Trump was in office.

Brady and Biden seemed to get along well Tuesday, as the QB presented the president with a custom jersey after his speech.
