Report: Edelman has ‘cleanup' surgery on injured foot

Julian Edelman recently had surgery on his left foot that was described as a "cleanup procedure", according to sources that spoke to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Reiss.

Edelman injured his foot in a Week 10 win over the Giants last season that forced him to miss the final seven regular-season games of the year. The injury ultimately healed enough for Edelman to play in the postseason while wearing a specially-designed cleat. He caught 10 passes for 100 yards in a Divisional Round win over Kansas City and reeled in seven passes for 53 yards in the AFC title game against Denver.

According to ESPN, Edelman is on track to return for training camp. How much of the offseason program and organized team activities Edelman misses remains unclear, but that he'll be available for camp should be positive news for the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady.

Joining Edelman at the top of the Patriots receiver depth chart is Danny Amendola and Chris Hogan. Others competing for time include rookies Malcolm Mitchell and Devin Lucien as well as Nate Washington, Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper and DeAndre Carter.
