Old Josh Richardson photo suggests C's are his team of destiny

Did Josh Richardson call his shot a decade ago?

The veteran guard joined the Celtics on Saturday when Boston acquired him in a trade that sent Moses Brown to the Dallas Mavericks. But if Richardson suits up for the C's this season, it won't be his first time wearing Celtics green.

Check out what Richardson posted on his Instagram story Monday, via Celtics team reporter Taylor Snow:

That 2010 photo of Richardson in a green-and-black Celtics jersey (with a New England Patriots logo behind him) is still on his Rivals.com page, for the record.

Richardson grew up just outside Oklahoma City and went to the University of Tennessee, so it's unclear if he's actually a Boston sports fan or just happened to be rocking a Celtics jersey in that photo.

Forsberg: Making sense of Richardson trade, other C's moves

He would have had good reason to support the C's back then, though: Boston reached the NBA Finals in 2010 after winning the championship in 2008 and was one of the league's most popular teams thanks to the "Big Three" of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Richardson's high school in Oklahoma even had green and white uniforms.

The 28-year-old comes to Boston after averaging 12.1 points and 2.6 assists per game for the Mavs last season. He's a solid defender who should bring veteran experience to the Celtics' backcourt rotation, although it's possible the team could include him in another trade if they're able to re-sign Evan Fournier in free agency.

If Richardson stays put, though, it appears he'll be very comfortable rocking Celtics green this season.
