Morning Skate: Hockey News doesn't like B's playoff chances

Share

Here are the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading on a Wednesday during the S-L-O-W period for the NHL.

-- In a regretful ending to her brilliant hockey career, Amanda (sister of Phil) Kessel’s playing days appear to be over due to concussions.

-- The Hockey News picks three playoff teams from last season that could miss this upcoming year, and the three non-playoff teams that could get in. Unfortunately, the Bruins aren't one of the latter three.

-- Longtime Boston University assistant Mike Bavis is added to Ron Rolston's coaching staff on the Springfield Falcons, the AHL affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes.

-- Patrick Kaleta is among a number of NHL players still looking for work long after the July 1 opening of free agency.

-- Tony Gallagher says a few hurdles still stand in the way of the NHL and the Nordiques returning to Quebec City despite the expansion victory this week.

-- PHT writer and FOH (Friend of Haggs) Jason Brough has Zac Rinaldo vowing not to suspended or take stupid penalties now that he’s with the Bruins. I guess we’ll see about that, but I think I’d be okay with him doing a little bit of both as long as he’s playing on the edge. That’s what the Bruins really need from him.

-- Geoff Baker breaks down why none of the three Seattle groups vying for NHL expansion were able to put forth an application.

-- For something completely different: Jake Gyllenhaal and Jimmy Fallon play a game of Slapjack that gets a little intense.
