Report: Timeline for Hunter Henry's return after shoulder injury

Hunter Henry's first game action with the New England Patriots will have to wait.

The Patriots tight end is expected to miss "a couple of weeks" after injuring his shoulder in Sunday's training camp practice, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Schefter added the injury is "not serious" for Henry,Ā who was set to have an MRI on his shoulder Monday, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Based on a two-week timeline, Henry would miss New England's preseason opener vs. the Washington Football Team this Thursday as well as next week's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles but be ready to return before Week 1.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick called Henry "day-to-day" in his press conference Tuesday, noting that the recently-acquired tight end has "gained a lot of experience" in training camp to date and shouldn't get too far behind in his preparation while sidelined.

"As players improve and they can do more, we can work them into things," Belichick said.Ā "The return process is a little different (in training camp)."

Henry signed with the Patriots this offseason on a three-year, $37.5 million contract and comes with high expectations to rejuvenate the tight end position alongside fellow newcomer Jonnu Smith. With Henry sidelined, Smith could see more opportunities to jell with quarterbacksĀ Cam Newton and Mac Jones.
