Don Orsillo pays tribute to Pedroia with awesome message

For much of the 2000s and 2010s, Don Orsillo and Dustin Pedroia were the heart of Boston Red Sox baseball.

Orsillo was the Red Sox play-by-play announcer from 2001 to 2015, when he joined the San Diego Padres broadcast booth. Pedroia enjoyed a 14-year career with the Red Sox before a nagging knee injury forced him into retirement.

What would Pedroia's stats look like without the injuries?

The duo spent 10 years in Boston together and clearly built a friendship during that time. Ahead of Pedroia's retirement ceremony Friday, Orsillo wrote a heartfelt and humorous message to the longtime Red Sox second baseman.

"Best to my friend Dustin Pedroia on his retirement Ceremony. Miss our commercial shoots. Thank you for all on the field, but maybe more so off. 2009 told me my HR calls were 'Brutal' and 'Get somebody out of their chair' Working on it ?," he wrote.

Yep, that definitely sounds like something Pedey would say.

Pedroia was known for his smack talk, but the Laser Show certainly backed it up. The two-time World Series champion has three All-Star selections, a Rookie of the Year award, an MVP award, and four Gold Gloves on his résumé.

The Pedroia retirement ceremony at Fenway Park is set for 6:30 p.m. ET with Red Sox-Yankees first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
