The Red Sox will be without their MVP when they visit the White House.

Mookie Betts told the Boston Globe on Saturday night that he has decided not to make the trip to Washington D.C. to celebrate his team's World Series title.

“I won’t be going there,” Betts said. “I decided not to.”

Betts told the press at the New York Baseball Writers’ Association of America dinner, where he accepted his American League MVP award. He did not explain his reason for opting not to attend.

The Sox outfielder won't be the only member of the team absent. Third baseman Rafael Devers already said will not be making the trip, and manager Alex Cora said he is still undecided.

The Red Sox' White House visit was rescheduled from Feb. 15 to May 9 due to the government shutdown.
