Tony La Russa helps clean up Fenway Park before Game 2 of doubleheader

The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays are playing a doubleheader on Saturday. With the first pitch for Game 2 scheduled at 6:10 following a 1:05 start for the earlier game, the ballpark staff was facing a tight turnaround to get things ready for the second game.

Then, the ninth inning came along. With the game already running a little bit long, the Rays tacked on an extra four runs against Sox lefty Josh Taylor. That cut the time between games to just about an hour and a half.

Because of this, the Red Sox had to have everyone available to help get things ready. And that ended up including Hall of Famer Tony La Russa, as NESN's Tom Caron pointed out on Twitter.

This was a decent gesture by La Russa, a special assistant to Dave Dombrowski, and his presence certainly was able to help move things along. The game started at about 6:12 p.m., just two minutes off the initially projected start time. That's solid, all things considered.

Perhaps this performance will help get La Russa into the stadium maintenance Hall of Fame. He should at least get consideration for that.
