Tanguay: ‘Belichick is sending a message to Gronk'

While Tom Brady's "questionable" calf might just be Bill Belichick playing more games with the NFL injury report, Gary Tanguay thinks limiting Rob Gronkowski's snaps against the Dolphins in the season opener Sunday could be a case of the coach sending a message to a player about spilling the beans too early about his status.

"To me, Bill Belichick is not sending a message to NFL about Gronk's injury [he's also listed as 'questionable' as he comes back from ACL surgery] and about how he follows the rules about the injury report [as he's doing with Brady]," Tanguay told Lou Merloni on Arbella Early Edition. "He's not trying to pull a fast one on the Miami Dolphins. He's sending a message to Rob Gronkowski: 'Gronk, you do not tell people about your playing status on Monday. You don't do that. That's my job. I'll decide when to do that.' This is sending a message to Gronk."

Said Merloni: "You agree with me that Rob Gronkowski and Bill Belichick had a conversation this week about that. [Belichick is] keeping people guessing. He loves that stuff."
