Bruins looking to find some salvation on the road

It’s a completely hackneyed hockey cliché at this point, but sometimes the long and winding road is exactly the cure to what ails a struggling hockey club.

The Boston Bruins hope that’s the case as they embark on a two-game road trip with Western Conference stops in Colorado and Arizona that will take them through the rest of the this week. The Avs and Coyotes might be a welcomed sight for an 0-3-0 B’s team simply looking for any kind of good result at this point, but those two Western Conference non-playoff teams are also out to an aggregate 3-1 start this season.

So while the road could be a good environment for bonding on a long team flight followed by six days outside the Boston pressure cooker, the Bruins will also need to simply play better hockey after allowing 16 goals in their first three defeats.

“It is good, actually. It’s something where we know the team is together all day long, and they travel together and eat together. A lot of times, a good portion of the focus is definitely on winning hockey games,” said Claude Julien. “So here’s hoping our team takes advantage of that.”

Clearly a nearly week-long road trip will be a good opportunity for the B’s to clear their collective heads and try to hit the refresh button. It’s also a good setting for veterans like Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron to start pulling a hockey club together that’s got a lot of new faces and young players that have scuffled in a disastrous opening week of the season.

“[Going on the road] is definitely going to help us, we have to make sure that we find a way to bond and to come as a team even better,” said Patrice Bergeron. “Going on the road is one of those things that it helps us, you know from one year to another, to get to know everyone and kind of worry about yourself and the team. [You] work on things you can improve, and don’t listen to anything else.”

That’s probably the best thing for the Bruins given the opening three losses: less listening to what’s being said, and more focus on changing the conversation starting on Wednesday night against the Avalanche.
