Some good and bad news for Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots.

The bad news? Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been selected to be on the cover over EA Sports' Madden NFL 16, beating the Patriots tight end in the finals.

The good news? If you believe in superstitions, Gronk will avoid the wrath of the legendary Madden curse.

The other two candidates originally considered were Steelers wideout Antonio Brown and and Cardinals corner Patrick Peterson.

Previous Madden cover boys include Eddie George (Madden 2001), Daunte Culpepper (2002), Marshall Faulk (2003), Michael Vick (2004), Ray Lewis (2005), Donovan McNabb (Madden NFL 06), Shaun Alexander (07), Vince Young (08), Brett Favre (09), Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald (10), Drew Brees (11), Peyton Hillis (12), Calvin Johnson (13), Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson (25th anniversary) and Richard Sherman (15).
