Amid waiting game, still a long way for Deflategate to go

Share

This is the fourth time during Deflategate that we’ve been reduced to a bunch of baby robins, necks craning, tiny beaks open waiting for a morsel of info to be dropped in.

First, it was the wait for the Wells Report, next it was the wait for the discipline to be handed down, then it was the wait for the appeal decision and now it’s the wait for Judge Berman’s ruling on the NFLPA appeal.

Berman’s ruling, at least, has a definitive timeline attached to it. But, sadly, no finality. If Goodell’s appeal ruling is vacated, the NFL will appeal. We then wait to find out if they try to prevent Tom Brady from playing.

If Goodell’s ruling is upheld, the NFLPA appeals and tries to get a stay allowing Brady to play while that appeal drags on.

And then we wait to see how that appeal goes, understanding that if the NFL wins, Brady’s suspension may then begin.

This is just a checkpoint. An important one. One which will prompt decisions that can dictate how much longer it goes. But it’s a long way from done.
