BOSTON -- The Bruins beat the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions 3-2 Thursday night thanks to a hat trick by David Pastrnak.

It was Pastrnak's 12th career hat trick, and he now has 36 goals in 64 games. He's well on his way to another 40-goal campaign.

Pastrnak's first tally came in the second period, where he took a pass from Erik Haula off the boards and raced past Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh. Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy couldn't deny Pastrnak all alone and the Bruins tied the score at one goal apiece.

The second goal came in the third period and was a bit of a fluke as Vasilevskiy lost sight of the puck and it found the back of the net.

The third goal put the Bruins ahead 3-2 with 4:10 remaining in regulation.

The victory vaulted the Bruins ahead of the Lightning and into third place in the Atlantic Division standings.
