Isaiah Thomas sticking around Charlotte on second 10-day deal

The Charlotte Hornets are going to take a longer look at former Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas.

As his initial 10-day contract with the team was set to expire, the Hornets announced they were signing the 33-year-old Thomas to a second 10-day deal after he averaged 9.7 points over three games for the team.

Following the conclusion of a second 10-day deal, Charlotte has to either sign Thomas for the remainder of the season or let him become a free agent.

The Hornets are the third team Thomas has played for this season following stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks on 10-day deals, neither of which resulted in second 10-day contract. Over eight games between the three teams this season, Thomas is averaging 9 points per contest.

Thomas has played for seven teams, including twice with the Lakers, since the Celtics traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the deal which brought Kyrie Irving to Boston in the summer of 2017.

Thomas played against the Celtics on Wednesday for the first time in more than two years, scoring just 5 points in 11 minutes off the bench in a 115-101 Boston win.

Charlotte, 33-35, has no games remaining against the Celtics in the regular season. The Hornets are currently ninth in the East, however, and could run into the C's in the postseason if they survive the play-in tournament.
