Next Pats: Are the Buffalo Bills soft?

The Buffalo Bills will be out for revenge when they take on the New England Patriots in Foxboro on Sunday.

A 14-10 loss to the Patriots in the blistering cold and high winds left a sour taste in the Bills' mouths in Week 13, especially with New England running the ball on all but three offensive plays. Bills head coach Sean McDermott had no interest in crediting Bill Belichick for his game plan, and Buffalo safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer didn't take kindly to a reporter asking if they were "embarrassed."

Their performance on the field and their actions afterward begs the question, are the Buffalo Bills soft? Tyler Dunne, founder of GoLongTD.com, shared his thoughts with Phil Perry on a new episode of the Next Pats Podcast.

"I have to say yes," Dunne said. "It's a word that people don't like to use in football, but I think it's bigger than just running the ball and stopping the run. It's a mindset. It's coaching scared like Sean McDermott tends to do. It's lifting your foot off the gas pedal. It's all of these things, and I think we saw it after the game where it looked like Bill Belichick got into his head in that press conference.

"They can change all that. If you go into Foxboro and you win big, you can change that narrative. But right now, I think the way they're built from the front office ... it's soft by NFL standards in 2021. But to me, it's just as much about the mentality. They're frontrunners. If they have their foot on your throat, they could win by 30 like they did in New England last year. But if you punch 'em, they usually don't know how to punch back."

Also discussed in this episode: Dunne talks about his feature, "The Autopsy of the NY Giants." Will the Patriots/Bills game be a referendum on what wins - a balanced team, or a great QB? And Mac Jones vs. Josh Allen.
