Report: Here's what Vegas gave up to land Jack Eichel in huge trade

Jack Eichel has said it would be "cool" to play for his hometown Boston Bruins one day, but that day is not today.

The Vegas Golden Knights are acquiring the star center from the Buffalo Sabres in a massive trade, TSN's Darren Dreger reported Thursday morning.

Here are the terms of the deal, per Dreger:

Vegas receives: Jack Eichel and a 2023 third-round pick

Buffalo receives: Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, 2022 first-round pick and a 2023 third-round pick.

Krebs, 20, is a talented young center who is already playing at the NHL level after Vegas drafted him 17th overall in 2019. Tuch, a Boston College alum, is a sturdy winger who has scored at least 15 goals in three of his first four seasons.

The Golden Knights had some competition for Eichel, as the Calgary Flames reportedly offered Buffalo star winger Matthew Tkachuk, two draft picks and two prospects.

Instead, Eichel is head to Vegas, where he won't see the ice for about four months due to upcoming disc replacement surgery, Dreger reports.

The Bruins were speculated as a possible landing spot for Eichel, who grew up in North Chelmsford, Mass., and played at Boston University. At 25 years old, he's one of the best young centers in hockey and would have made Boston a serious Stanley Cup contender.

But reports in March suggested the Bruins would need to part with defenseman Charlie McAvoy or forward David Pastrnak in a deal for Eichel. Those are Boston's two young cornerstones who will take the leadership torch from Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, so it's probably for the best that the B's stood pat, especially considering Eichel's injury.

The Bruins also have to be pleased that Eichel is out of the Eastern Conference as they eye another playoff run.
