The Boston Red Sox reportedly are among the contending teams looking to add starting pitching before Friday's July 30 MLB trade deadline, and one potential target is Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios.
MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported Thursday that the Red Sox have interest in both Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer and Berrios.

Berrios is 7-5 with a career-best 3.48 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, 126 strikeouts and 32 walks in 121 2/3 innings for the Twins this season. Minnesota could be a seller at the trade deadline given its last-place standing in the AL Central division.

The 27-year-old starter is playing on a one-year contract worth $6.1 million and has one more year of arbitration eligibility before being able to become a UFA after the 2023 season.
Berrios is a two-time All-Star who would add much-needed talent to Boston's starting rotation. The Red Sox rank eighth in the American League in starter ERA (4.43), sixth in strikeouts (532), 13th in batting average against (.270) and 15th in hits allowed (565).
