Report: Welker missed game because of death in family

Wes Welker said on Monday he missed Friday's game against the Buccaneers because of a "personal issue."

The Globe's Greg Bedard was on Sports Tonight later Monday to report that Welker was telling the truth. It was a personal issue. Welker wasn't sitting out because of his contract situation or because he was being a malcontent.

On Tuesday Bedard said the reason Welker missed Friday's game was because he had a death in the family for which he had to attend his native Oklahoma.
