After a batter had been hit by each team, home plate umpire Marty Foster issued warnings to both benches. When Weiland plunked Vladimir Guerrero with the third pitch of his at-bat in the fifth inning, Foster immediately tossed the Red Sox rookie right-hander, along with manager Terry Francona.
