ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jacoby Ellsbury, who missed the final two games in Kansas City after being plunked in the hip with a pitch, is on schedule to return to the lineup Tuesday.

Ellsbury took full batting practice Monday afternoon and could have returned, but manager Terry Francona thought it best to give the outfielder another day, especially with tough lefty C.J. Wilson pitching for Texas in the opener.

"He came in early and hit," said Francona. "He came in and was sort of, 'I think I can play.' I said, 'Let me take this out of your hands.' So he'll be in great shape tomorrow.

"He let it loose (in BP) and he'll be sore, but he'll be able to play (Tuesday)."
