Clay Buchholz was expected to throw a side session today. Instead the right-hander will see a specialist within the next few days to take another look at his back.

We want Buck to see one more specialist FridayMonday-ish before we completely turn him loose, Francona said. Just because hes starting to get aggressive and with everything thats gone on we just want to make sure hes OK.

Francona was unsure which doctor Buchholz, who did not throw at all on Wednesday, would see.

I think were going to hold off today just because hes going to see this guy, Francona a said. So we just want make sure were not doing something wrong.

He had a good day yesterday. He had a really good day. Hes not going to throw a side. Its a lot to ask moving forward if we want him to start pitching games.

Francona said Buchholzs arm strength, though, was good.

He looked two days ago like he was in midseason form. Thats what was very encouraging to us.
