Beckett (ankle) throws off a mound

Josh Beckett threw off a mound at Fenway Park Monday, according to the Boston Globe. It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since he sprained his right ankle last week.

The Red Sox righthander could start on Thursday if he is feeling good and the Red Sox felt comfortable throwing him out there.

He would be a welcome boost to the Red Sox rotation, which has struggled of late and currently features the likes of Tim Wakefield, Andrew Miller and Kyle Weiland.
