The Patriots have claimed cornerback Antwaun Molden on waivers from the Houston Texans according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.Molden was drafted with the 16th pick of the third round in the 2008 NFL Draft, and played 32 games with the Texans. He has 28 career tackles (23 solo) in his career.
The cornerback position looks to be a position of need for the Patriots, as Jonathan Wilhite was released, Darius Butler hasn't performed well, Ras-I Dowling is a rookie coming off a leg injury, and Leigh Bodden missed all of last season with a torn rotator cuff.
The Patriots had both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett on the field for Tuesday's practice.
While many are hopeful that Garoppolo will be ready to go on Sunday, it’s definitely not a given at this point.
According to CSN’s Mike Giardi, Garoppolo is “still in pain and does not yet have full mobility in his throwing shoulder”
Tom E. Curran had better news about Jacoby Brissett’s thumb. The rookie quarterback was in the Patriots locker room locker room Tuesday morning without splint, tape or cast on his thumb.
When he asked Brissett if he's feeling "tip-top," he answered, "Oh yeah."
FOXBORO -- The Patriots have added some receiver depth to their locker room by signing Da'Ron Brown to their practice squad.
Brown, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Chiefs in 2015 and spent his rookie season on the Kansas City practice squad. At Northern Illinois, the 6-foot, 199-pounder caught 155 passes in four years, accumulating 2,295 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores in his career. As a senior in 2014, he caught 68 passes for 1,065 yards.
With the signing, the Patriots have filled out their practice squad. The team has had an opening on its 10-man unit since the Colts signed away receiver Devin Street for their 53-man roster.
With just four receivers on the Patriots roster, not including special teams ace Matthew Slater, they've loaded up on receiver depth through their practice squad with Brown, Devin Lucien and DeAndrew White.
