If fans in Indianapolis weren't panicking before Sunday night, they are now.

According to Indianapolis radio host John Michael Vincent, Peyton Manning needs another neck procedure and is out indefinitely.

Now, Vincent, who goes by JMV on the radio, admitted on Twitter that he is "not trying to be a newsbreaker. Never cared for that." So it's tough to gauge the legitimacy of a huge breaking news story like this from someone who says they're not into breaking news. But JMV cites multiple unnamed sources and said via Twitter that the story "seems to be solid."

He added, "If not U can torch me."

Manning has had two neck surgeries in the last two years, and as he has recuperated from his most recent procedure, the Colts signed Kerry Collins. That signing was cause for concern in Indy because why pay a backup quarterback 4 million -- which is what the Colts gave Collins -- if your future Hall of Fame quarterback is going to be ready for Week 1?

Colts fans may have been given hope last week since Manning was removed from the physically unable to perform list and began limited participation in practice.

Colts general manager Bill Polian responded to the report that Manning needs another procedure by saying, "I don't know anything about that. I honestly don't."

Colts owner Jim Irsay, an avid tweeter, had an interesting message for his followers.

From PFT:

The Colts have been silent so far, but owner Jim Irsay has made an indirect reference on Twitter to the classic astronaut SOS: Houston, we have a problem. Instead of typing those words, Irsay has opted for the lesser-known follow up.Excuse me, sir, I think this will be our finest hour.

ESPN is reporting that Manning has met with doctors to be re-evaluated because of slow progress, but that no surgery is scheduled "as of now." ESPN's Chris Mortenson also tweeted that when the Colts signed Collins, they did not believe Peyton Manning would be ready for the team's opener with the Texans.

CBS is reporting that there is the "potential" for Manning to miss 4-5 weeks or more to start the season.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King is reporting that Manning's neck issue has something to do with nerve regeneration, and that you "can't rush Mother Nature." What's more, King is also reporting that Manning has a sore back.

The Patriots are scheduled to play the Colts Dec. 4.
