Patriots re-sign Gerard Warren, release McGowan

FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick announced moments ago that the Patriots have re-signed defensive lineman Gerard Warren, who played in all 16 games (and started 10) for New England last season.

Warren, who turned 33 last week, was signed as a free agent prior to the 2010 season after spending the first nine years of his career in Cleveland (2001-04), Denver (2005-06) and Oakland (2007-09). He had 16 tackles, with 10 assisted tackles, and 3.5 sacks last year.

Belichick also confirmed the release of safetyBrandon McGowan, which was first reported Sunday.
