FOXBORO -- The Patriots have placed kicker Stephen Gostkowski on the injured-reserve list, ending his season.
Gostkowski has a torn quadriceps that might need surgery.
"That's a bummer," said quarterback Tom Brady. "He's been a hell of a player. Great kicker.
"We've had a few guys put on IR that are real good, dependable players," added Brady, referring to running back Kevin Faulk, offensive lineman Nick Kaczur and defensive backs Leigh Bodden and Brandon McGowan as well as Gostkowski. "He'll be missed."
Veteran kicker Shayne Graham was signed by the team on Tuesday as a replacement.
It was originally thought the quad injury that Gostkowski suffered last week, which kept him out of the last two quarters of Sunday's game in Cleveland, would sideline him for two weeks.
