FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick got to spend some time with San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers at the Pro Bowl, and with the Chargers coming to town this Sunday, the Patriots' coach had some high praise for his next opponent, comparing him to other elite quarterbacks in the league.

Off the field, hes very impressive, said Belichick when asked about Rivers. Hesreally into football, a very smart guy. He understands and is very interestedin talking about football, schemes, players, and all those kinds of things. Hesreally into it.Like Peyton Manning was, like Matt Cassel, like TomBrady, and all those guys. Theyre very similar like that. He has a good arm.He can really throw the ball down the field. Hes a big guy who really sees thefield well.

The Patriots had both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett on the field for Tuesday's practice.

While many are hopeful that Garoppolo will be ready to go on Sunday, it’s definitely not a given at this point.

According to CSN’s Mike Giardi, Garoppolo is “still in pain and does not yet have full mobility in his throwing shoulder”

Tom E. Curran had better news about Jacoby Brissett’s thumb. The rookie quarterback was in the Patriots locker room locker room Tuesday morning without splint, tape or cast on his thumb.

When he asked Brissett if he's feeling "tip-top," he answered, "Oh yeah."
