It was all smiles at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday as the New England Revolution introduced their new midfielder, Jermaine Jones.

For head coach Jay Heaps, Jones fills a role that the Revs were hoping to fill - and didn't imagine being able to with a player fresh off a US Men's National Team appearance in the World Cup.

"The minute you hear that a player of Jermaine's caliber is out there, we jumped at the opportunity as a staff," Heaps said. "We can't always pick the players we want, but for our team, you look at the spectrum of players, he was exactly the player we wanted."

The Revolution started their season off hot, but after a long stretch of losses they find themselves on the playoff fringe. The hope is that Jones can help get the Revs back over the hump and into the postseason. The future looks a lot brighter now than it did prior to Jones' arrival.

"There's certainly excitement, you could sense it today," Heaps said. "All of our guys, staff included, I think we were looking for a player like this, and to have him come to the door, and like everyone talked about it was a long process. So I think the process itself played out and there was a big anticipation. But as a coach I think our philosophy stays the same and he fits exactly what we were looking for, a ball-winning midfielder, a great presence in there. So our philosophy stays the same in how we want to coach the team now that we feel we have a big piece of the puzzle right down the spine."
