20 Under 25 Candidates: Diego Fagundez

Share

In 2013, the-then 18-year-old Diego Fagundez racked up 13 goals and 7 assists. But if you ask anyone in the Revolution organization, 2015 was the best year of his career. After a disappointing 2014, in which his production and playing time dropped, Fagundez managed to battle his way into a very talented midfield. But according to coach Jay Heaps, what earned Fagundez playing time wasn’t his offensive skill but his commitment to defending and being a true two-way player. Now, Fagundez still showed why he’s one of the Revs' best attacking players by scoring 6 goals in 31 appearances (including this golazo).

Still only 20, Fagundez's future is incredibly bright . . . but this is no surprise, as he's been a pro since signing with the Revs at age 15. But this year Fagundez showed maturity and a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a great pro, week in and week out. Also, he’s still physically developing. As Fagundez has literally grown up in this league you can see his body still changing, adding muscle mass and strength to his technically gifted game. Fagundez was the first homegrown player signed by the Revs. He's still far from reaching his full potential, but I believe he’ll be a key part of this club for years to come if he continues to show the determination and drive he did this year.
