20 Under 25 Candidates: Andrew Farrell

Share

Expectations have been high for Andrew Farrell since he was drafted first overall in the 2013 MLS Super Draft, but he’s managed to live up to them.

In 2015, he started 33 of the Revolution's 35 games, which is actually the fewest games he’s started in his three-year career (34 in 2013, 36 in 2014). Since joining the club he’s been one of the first names on the team sheet for coach Jay Heaps and that will continue in the future. 2015 was a big year for Farrell as he changed positions from right back to central back. Early on, it was obvious he and fellow central back Jose Gonçalves were going through some growing pains together.  But after the first two months he was able to make the move a success, due to his work ethic and ability.

Farrell is widely recognized as one of the best athletes in the league. His combination of speed and strength are just not common. As he develops his technical ability he will become a big impact player in MLS. Learning to play the CB position has only added to his overall value, but he can always be deployed as a RB and showcase that athleticism more making runs down the flank.

Farrell has the raw skills to be a perennial All-Star in this league but even if the league doesn't recognize him, the Revs will always value him highly.

FINAL RATING: All-Star
