Does Bill Belichick win without Tom Brady?
Does Tom Brady win without Bill Belichick?
They've been debated for years, and will likely continue to be debated until the end of time (or at least for quite a while).
Bob Ryan joins the Uno Sports Tonight crew to debate the question within the prism of the 2013 season: Who deserves the most credit for this year's success? Tom Brady or Bill Belichick?
Ryan bows down (literally) to Belichick, his hoodies and his cryptic press conferences, but says the credit belongs to Brady:
"How many coaches and managers have said 'I don't pitch, I don't shoot the baskets, I don't hit the home runs, I don't score the goals, and in this case I don't make these passes and make the checkdowns…"
"The player has to perform. The answer is Tom Brady."
Lou Merloni says the credit belongs on the sideline.
"I think it's Bill," says Merloni. "I just think managing, coaching in the NFL, there's more to it than in any other sport."
"In football, the adjustments... he's seeing things to help these guys. Bill Belichick, this is one of the best year's he's had," says Merloni.
Ryan doesn't buy it.
"The player has to play," says Ryan. "He's been put in a great position to succeed, but he makes these difficult decisions, he makes these passes, he makes these plays, and average quarterbacks do not utilize what Belichick has given Brady because they're not Brady."
Who gets your vote? Is it Brady or Belichick who deserves the most credit for the success of the 2013 Patriots?
