Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen are the primary cogs in the New England running game, but with Brandon Bolden and new draftee James White also on the depth chart, the competition for carries will be fierce.
"You can go out there and be a starter one game and the next game you’re two or three guys behind [on the depth chart," says Ridley]. "That’s what coach stresses to us every week. He’s going to play the match ups game and we just have to be unselfish enough to go out there and capitalize on the plays that we get."
Bill Belichick has never been shy about riding the hot hand or benching a veteran. That means each player has to bring his best every day if he hopes to see the field.
"I think competition brings the best out of everybody," says Vereen. "At the end of the day it’s going to make us all better."
