Andy Gresh says he thinks the team is trying to compare those top quarterbacks to the one they really like who's slated to be picked in later rounds.

So, why are the Patriots taking a look at high-profile college quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel?

On Arbella Early Edition, Andy Gresh of 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zo show theorized that the Pats might be trying to compare these two QBs to one they really might like to groom as Tom Brady's successor, who would be available in later rounds of the draft.

I don't think there's really a situation here," Gresh said. "Are the New England Patriots going to look at a draft and say, 'This is our guy.' As you move forward, are you going to go the cheap rout, which people would say, and develop say somebody long-term? Or are you going to go with a veteran and really go off the grid and try and recreate what you did with Tom Brady and take a guy in the fifth or sixth round and hope you hit a home run? I think they're honing in on somebody but it ain't one of the big three that we've been hearing about and it sure as hell ain't Johnny Manziel."
