You've got to go back to 2003 the last time the Patriots lost an opener. And it came just where they're going to open the 2013 season. In Buffalo. Remember the debacle after Lawyer Milloy was cut?

So, does history repeat this Sunday?

An emphatic "No," says the "New England Tailgate" crew. Glenn Ordway, Fred Smerlas and Steve DeOssie make their picks for the opener, and for the Pats season.

Fred: "[The Buffalo] game plan is to keep the ball away from the offense of the the New England Patriots. It'll be close in the first quarter but the Patriots will win."

Steve: "The Patriots have scored something like 200 points against Buffalo the last six times they played them. No reason to believe they won't score 30 points. Buffalo can't Patriots win going away."

Glen: "I will take the points in this one [the Pats are favored by 9 1/2]. I think the Patriots will win the football game, but I will take the points."

As for the season, here's how the guys break it down.

Fred: 13-3 and the Patriots reach the Super Bowl.

Steve: 11-5 and a loss in the AFC Championship Game.

Glenn: 11-5 and a loss in the second round of the playoffs.
