The Patriots have added yet another moving part to their 53-man roster.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Pats claimed former Miami Dolphins linebacker and Iowa Hawkeyes standout A.J. Edds off waivers.
Edds, a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, spent his entire rookie season on the Injured Reserve after tearing his ACL.
Edds made 219 tackles in his four-year career at Iowa. He also intercepted seven passes, including five during his senior year.
By many accounts, the release of Edds is a bit of a surprise and perhaps premature. Having not been able to play his rookie season, Edds hasn't been able to show what he's capable of.
He looks to fit into a middle linebacker role on the Pats, but has the ability to play a number of positions.
