Word out of Cleveland Wednesday night is that the reason Josh McDaniels withdrew his name from consideration for the Browns coaching job is that he wasn’t the leading candidate.
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said that, according to a source, “McDaniels asked the Browns if he was No. 1 on their list, and was told no.”
Cabot added that the Browns told McDaniels “that they were conducting an exhaustive search and that they planned to continue to the process. It's one that could ultimately include former head coaches, current college coaches and more NFL assistants.”
Other reports have McDaniels eschewing the offer because he’s content in New England.
