Report: Brady, Gronk, Edelman, Cooks will sit out tonight

It will apparently be a night for the Patriots to showcase the backups Thursday when they take the field for the first time in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Gillette Stadium.

Offensive stars Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and new acquisition Brandin Cooks will get the night off, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

Last year, Brady started the preseason opener against the Packers after it was initially reported that he wouldn't play. Of course, Brady was suspended for the first four regular season games last season and that factored into the decision to play him. And, as Howe notes,  "As always, Bill Belichick reserves the right to change his mind and thrust the starters onto the field at the last moment in a be-ready-for-anything coaching tactic, but the plan right now is to keep them out."
