FOXBORO -- Here's the Postcard from Day 6 of Patriots training camp on Wednesday, July 30.
Seventy-five degrees and sunny. Nary a cloud in the sky. Good beach weather. Good football weather, too.
WHAT THEY WORE
Full pads for the fourth consecutive practice. Quarterbacks wore red no-contact jerseys.
Aaron Dobson, Matthew Slater, Dominique Easley and Chris Martin were present but working in shorts and t-shirts as part of a rehab group. Not present Wednesday were Michael Hoomanawanui, Bryan Stork, Josh Boyce, Jeremy Gallon, Deontae Skinner and Jemea Thomas.
WHAT THEY DID
After the typical warmup of half-speed plays and stretching, the Patriots ran through their individual positional drills quickly.
Special teams half-speed technique work was followed by quarterbacks and pass-catchers working on their one-on-one connections. Tom Brady threw to running backs and tight ends being covered by linebackers and safeties, while Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Garoppolo tossed to wideouts going up against corners.
The next period saw Brady working with receivers down by the goal line. They went full speed against corners and safeties. Soon after there was a focus placed on the running game and then a drill was run to hone in on ball protection.
Eleven-on-eleven work was followed by Brady and Rob Gronkowski working together with Darrelle Revis going half-speed in coverage. Gronk had two drops but otherwise looked fairly quick getting in and out of his breaks.
On the practice field adjacent to Brady and Gronk, special teams coach Scott O'Brien ran a period that focused on kickoff coverage.
After more 11-on-11 reps focused on two-minute situations, the Patriots worked on kicking field goals with Stephen Gostkowski drilling each of his attempts from various distances.
The team finished things off with some hill sprints for conditioning.
WHAT WE SAW
-- In one-on-one work down by the goal line, Brady looked sharp. He hit Danny Amendola twice for scores as Amendola worked against Revis and Kyle Arrington. The catch against Revis was an impressive, one-handed snag.
-- Physical battle between Brandon Browner and Kenbrell Thompkins in their one-on-one matchup at the goal line. Thompkins shoved Browner to the turf mid-route on one rep. On the next, Browner committed a blatant pass interference and shoved Thompkins to the ground.
-- Browner was visibly upset with receivers coach Chad O'Shea when Browner was spoken to by O'Shea during one-on-one work. Physicality got to the point where one side or the other would have been called for a penalty in game action. Whether it was a motivating factor or not, Browner proceeded to have a good practice the rest of the way, picking off Brady in 11-on-11 work.
-- Shane Vereen beat Jerod Mayo on an inside route as backs and linebackers went one-one-one with Brady doing the throwing. Vereen has had a very good camp so far, continuously showing good hands and taking most of his repetitions with Brady under center.
-- Justin Jones looked relatively fleet-footed in a one-on-one drill going against Devin McCourty in coverage. Through camp to this point, the biggest drawback in his skill set appeared to be his lack of agility.
-- A few drops early in the session: 1) Edelman dropped a couple of balls in warmups and lost two others in the one-on-one drills that followed (Malcolm Butler broke up one catch when Edelman stopped running as soon as he caught it); 2) Revis dropped an interception in a three-quarter speed drill where defensive backs worked on their hands; 3) Derrick Johnson dropped a deep pass down the middle of the field in those same three-quarter one-on-one drills going against corners.
-- In kickoff team work, we saw McCourty, Tavon Wilson, Nate Ebner, Kannoris Davis, Darius Fleming, Arrington, Michael Buchannan, Steve Beauharnais, Patrick Chung and Brandon Bolden work together in coverage.
-- The Patriots didn't have much choice, but Jones got reps at tight end with Brady's group. Gronkowski is still limited and not participating in full-speed offense versus defense work; Hoomanawanui was not present.
-- Dan Connolly was back at practice after missing Tuesday's session. He got reps at center snapping to Brady while Ryan Wendell stood behind the line of scrimmage with Garoppolo. Wendell eventually went in to take snaps at center with the Mallett group.
-- Marcus Cannon played at right guard with Connolly at center.
-- James White continues to get work with New England's top offensive options. He's showed good hands and decisive moves after taking handoffs, especially near the goal line.
-- The Patriots had music piped in for some of their 11-on-11 work. "Glory Days" by Bruce Springsteen was the first song blared. U2's "Elevation" also got a play, as did "Mary's place" by Springsteen.
-- In 11-on-11 work, Edelman took a good shot on a stretch run by Ridley. He came to the sideline to sit the next few plays out. He appeared to be fine and participating fully later.
-- Ebner got a look at strong safety alongside McCourty in 11-on-11s late in the practice.
-- Josh Kline got a look on one play as a third tackle in a power-running formation.
-- During two-minute work, Mallett hustled his group off the field to give way to the field-goal unit. Gostkowski rushed in with holder Ryan Allen and snapper Danny Aiken (Allen waiving a towel to signal the change) and promptly made a 47-yarder.
-- Brady to Edelman with Browner in coverage.

-- Brady incomplete to Vereen. The ball was caught out of bounds in the end zone.
