The arms race is officially on. The Patriots matched the Denver Broncos' big moves with one of their own when they landed five-time All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Is this all being done because of that infamous "championship window" continuing to close for quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady?
"That's the reason. I don't see any other explanation or argument," long-time Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan told Michael Felger on Sports Tonight. "You've got to maximize your time here with Brady."
Boston Herald Patriots beat writer Jeff Howe said the Pats are indeed going for it and sees Revis as just the beginning.
"They caught a break because Revis gave them a below-market deal." Howe said. "They're not going to just all of a sudden take their philosophy [of not spending lavishly] and throw it out the window. They are going to go after a pass-rusher or two."
