Patriots waive RB Montee Ball following arrest

The Patriots waived running back Montee Ball on Tuesday, according to the NFL's transaction wire.

Ball was added to the Patriots practice squad in December when the team was looking for running back depth. Though running back LeGarrette Blount suffered a season-ending injury in Week 14, the Patriots opted to add Joey Iosefa and veteran free agent Stephen Jackson to their 53-man roster late in the season over Ball.

As a member of the Patriots practice squad, Ball's contract expired on Feb. 1, but according to ESPN, he was signed to a future contract soon thereafter -- a move that was not announced.

Ball was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred at a Madison, Wisc. hotel on Friday between him and his girlfriend. According to the Associated Press, the woman told police that Ball threw her in the air and that she landed on a table, cutting her leg. Ball was jailed following the incident.

Ball was also charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking his girlfriend five days earlier, per a criminal complaint, but he will not face felony charges.

Ball was released from jail on Monday and is due back in court on March 1.
