Patriots sign former Texans WR Washington

The Patriots have added another veteran free-agent pass-catcher to their roster for Tom Brady to work with.

The team announced that it has signed wideout Nate Washington to a deal that will bring the 32-year-old to New England. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports Washington received a one-year deal.

Washington spent 2015 in Houston where he recorded 47 catches for 658 yards and four touchdowns. His experience with the Texans under coach Bill O'Brien could help him transition to life with the Patriots given O'Brien's history with the Patriots and the similarities between the offenses of the two clubs.

The Patriots have not been shy about adding receivers who have spent time under O'Brien in Houston. They traded for receiver Keshawn Martin early last season, and they picked up wideout Damaris Johnson mid-year. Martin signed an extension with the team during the season and finished the year with 24 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson signed with the Patriots on Dec. 1 and was released on Dec. 16 after seeing time in one regular-season game.

Washington, who will be entering his 12th season, had his best year in 2011 as a member of the Titans when he caught 74 passes for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Patriots depth chart at receiver currently includes Washington, Chris Hogan, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper, DeAndre Carter and Matthew Slater.
