Patriots reportedly haven't discussed Peterson — and they might not

On the latest episode of Quick Slants the Podcast, we went back and forth on the merits of a partnership between the Patriots and free-agent running back Adrian Peterson.

Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran thought the team should kick the tires. Peterson was only a year removed from a rushing title, after all.

I wasn't quite as on board. Peterson's age, injury history, and ball-security issues would have been enough for me to steer clear.

Turns out that discussion might have been a gigantic waste of everyone's time.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Patriots have not yet discussed a deal for Peterson and it's safe to assume that they won't pursue him at all.

Last week the Boston Herald reported that Peterson would be open to playing for the Patriots at a reduced rate. This latest news would seem to serve as an indication that Bill Belichick and his front office don't care.

The Patriots could very well be in the market for running back help, however. They appear set at the sub-back spot with James White and Dion Lewis under contract for 2017, but if LeGarrette Blount departs via free agency then they could be looking for another bruising back to take his place.

Indications suggest that won't be Peterson.
